Express Entry

Federal Skilled Workers

As of January 1, 2015, a new system called Express Entry is the new process to apply under the program of Federal Skilled workers, Canadian Experience Class, and Federal Skill Trades. To meet the minimum requirements, skilled worker must meet the following criteria.

  • Skilled work experience must be:
    • At least one year (1,560 hours total/30 hours per week), continuous full time or an equal amount in part time
    • Paid work (volunteer works unpaid internships do not count)
    • In the same NOC skill type (O, A or B)
    • In the past 10 years
    • All skill type O, or skill level A, or B at 2011 National Occupation Classification) (NOC)

**If you cannot show that your work experience meets the description in the NOC, you are not eligible under this program.

  • Language Ability
    You must meet the minimum language benchmark of CLB 7 in English or NCLC 7 in French for your first official language in all four-language abilities. To get points for your second official language, you must meet minimum of CLB level 5 in all four-language abilities.
  • Education
    • You must have secondary or post-secondary certificate, diploma or degree or
    • An Education Credential Assessment (ECA) Report from an authorized agency by CIC to reflect the equivalent Canadian education standards.

Six Selection Factors

Applicant must the minimum requirements as set on the six selection factors below. This is based on skilled worker grid points as listed below:

  • Skills in English/French
  • Education
  • Work Experience
  • Age
  • Valid job offer
  • Adaptability

If the applicant scores 67 points or higher, applicant may qualify to immigrate to Canada under the federal skilled worker. If applicant scores below 67 points, applicant will not qualify to apply for federal skilled workers category

 

Canadian Experience Class:

The Canadian Experience Class is for skilled workers who have Canadian work experience and want to become permanent residents.

Minimum requirements

You must

  • meet the required language levels needed for your job for each language ability
  • have at least 1 year of skilled work experience in Canada, in the last 3 years before you apply
  • have gained your work experience by working in Canada while under temporary resident status with authorization to work

You’re not eligible for the Canadian Experience Class if

  • you’re a refugee claimant in Canada
  • you’re working without authorization
  • your work experience was gained without temporary resident status in Canada
